Introduction

Welcome to the website of the Dutch Scalp Cooling Group

The Dutch Scalp Cooling Group performs studies on scalp cooling and functions as a knowledge centre for health care professionals and outsiders. The Dutch Scalp Cooling Group is sheltered at the Comprehensive Cancer Centre South in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

Chemotherapy-induced alopecia, i.e. hair loss as a result of chemotherapy, is a common side effect of cancer treatment. It stigmatizes by making cancer visible and is therefore a psychological burden to many patients and their near relatives.

Scalp cooling is applied to prevent, or at least reduce chemotherapy-induced alopecia. Scalp cooling is suitable for chemotherapy patients with solid tumors, females and males, of all ages. Scalp cooling is effective in most chemotherapy schedules, it is tolerated well by patients and is cost-effective, at least for the Dutch health care system.

The Dutch Scalp Cooling Group promotes the exchange of scalp cooling knowledge, it improves scalp cooling application and offers more cancer patients the opportunity to keep their hair during chemotherapy.
